No self-control: comedian’s bully-boy rage at female fan taking photo during gig.

TV comedy star Simon Amstell grabbed a fan’s mobile phone from her hand and kicked it across the stage in anger during his show on Monday 5 August.

The stand-up and host of Never Mind the Buzzcocks had banned flash photography from all his shows during the Festival. But one sneaky fan disobeyed notorious control-freak Amstell and used her mobile to snap the star.

The comedian saw the girl and angrily grabbed the phone from her, kicking it across the stage.

The victim, Louis Zajma, 23, a secretary from Edinburgh was shaken by the Buzzcocks brat’s bully behaviour. She was sitting close to the star in the front row when he pounced.

“The bugger threw my mobile phone across the stage. I was really shocked and just wanted a photo of him.”

The permed-prince of TV pop made no effort to return the phone to the girl. Rather a venue steward had to search for the phone and return it to Louise at the end of the show.

“I sat throughout the show worrying if I would even get my phone back. He’s an arse but I’ll remain a fan of him.”

Fans had paid up to £12.50 a ticket to attend Amstell’s show at the packed Pleasance One.

Curiofestival’s very own digital artist was also in the crowd and witnessed the incident. Ronnie “Scribbler” Buchan said: “What Simon did to that girl was amusing but it’s also bullying. The audience laughed but it was a bit harsh. Comedians make fun of you, but they don’t usually abuse your personal property.”

Amstell was at the centre of another hissy-fit last week when he gave a “needless dressing down” to a producer of a rival comedian’s show.

A spokesperson for one of the UK’s leading comedy promoters said: “He was needlessly cruel to a girl that was just doing her job. He asked her which comedian she worked for. She told him. Then he just started on her, saying she was not good enough to work for the man. The girl was so upset. What’s that all about?”

Amstell is renowned for his bitchy comedy. In January this year, his jokes about Celebrity Big Brother winner Chantelle Houghton forced her then-husband Preston to walk out of filming for Never Mind the Buzzcocks

Simon Amstell was unavailable for comment.

Clearly, simmering Simon needs to shake out of it and leave the girls alone. Though some may argue he’s been doing that for years!
