Curiofestival.com is an innovative new website providing daily ‘news and views’ coverage of the 2007 Edinburgh Festival. It has launched in time to catch all the action.

The site is aimed at Festival goers who want all the latest happenings, events, controversies, and gossip that go into making the event one of the most memorable arts festivals of the year.

Curiofestival.com hosts a 24/7 newsroom that ‘make and breaks’ daily news, and contain features, blogs, reviews and gossip from the seven festivals that make up the month long event. The website will also include a city guide of the ‘weird and wonderful’ of Edinburgh, daily listings guides for recommended shows, and even a weather report.

The venture is the creation of web editor Curio (aka Marc Johnston). He has worked extensively as a journalist and internet consultant over the past 10 years. Curio leads a talented team of journalists, designers, bloggers, artists and critics to bring Curiofestival.com to life.

Curio says: “CurioFestival will not only capture the beauty and artistry of the Edinburgh Festival, but we’ll be promoting the shows that struggle every day for audience or acclaim. It is they who symbolise, more than anyone, all that is marvellous and daring about being a part of the greatest show on earth”

The website features a number of innovative features that include 24/7 ‘breaking’ news stories, web-style reviews and features that incorporate audio and video, the use of blogging, and one of the latest online news content management systems.

Curiofestival.com will use a team of web-experienced journalists and photographers who will capture the Festival’s highs and lows. The site even has the services of a digital sketch artist who will draw live, key moments and personalities from around the city this Festival.

Local Edinburgh artist Ronnie “Scribbler” Buchan is Curiofestival.com’s resident digital illustrator. He will sketch on digital tablet and upload his images within seconds of their completion onto the Curiofestival.com website.

“We are fusing the old-style Victorian sketch artist with the latest image-making technology,” says Curio. “This encapsulates our whole ethos, which is finding avant-garde ways of best capturing the spirit of the Edinburgh Festival.”

Curiofestival.com is now live on the web and will be updated every day throughout the Edinburgh Festival.

The Edinburgh Festival is the world largest arts festival. It is made up of seven festivals: the Edinburgh Fringe Festival; the Edinburgh International Festival; the Edinburgh International Book Festival; the Edinburgh International Film Festival; the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival; the Edinburgh Military Tattoo; and the Festival of Spirituality and Peace.

The Festival began on the 27th July with the opening of the Jazz Festival and will go on until early September.
