Curio meets cabaret sensation Meow Meow.

Meow Meow invited Curio into her dressing room for a rare interview. Can Curio put the cat amongst her pigeons?

It’s your Festival debut. How's it all going?
Fantastic. As you know I’ve been performing every night, apart from one day off. That left me distraught and over emotional because I wasn't on stage! I’m loving it here.

A controversial cat like you must have a few stories to tell. Care to share?

Yes, I do. But they are unprintable. Next question.

Come, come!
Well I did a gig recently in New York for David Bowie. An outdoor performance in France. Two cabaret gigs in Australia. Vegas with Liza Minelli. All this in the last few weeks. I’m a machine of deep glamour. Need I go on?!

How does such a busy international Diva keep herself looking so glamorous?

Genetics, plus fishnets and makeup and more makeup. In fact, I go to bed so late, why bother to even take it off?

Seen any good shows while you’ve been here?

Last night I saw the wonderful production of Poppea. It was proper adult Festival stuff. Ancient opera, extreme vocals, mixed with Cole Porter numbers. Unbelievable.

I met you at Amanda Palmer's show. What did you think of her?

I loved the show; I love her. We get on so well. There is also Camille too. Three Divas all together at in the Spiegel Garden. Its exillerating. Three extreme chicks, just feeding off each other at the moment – I’m loving it! Amanda and I have some plans to do some stuff together. Now that would be a spooky collaboration.

What have you loved about the Edinburgh Festival?

I feel like I am in my natural habitat in the Spiegel Garden. I compare myself often to the tent- unbelievable, beautiful, slightly tawdry, and a little dilapidated. And a lot of history going on! Too much probably!

Anything not purr-fect about the Festival?
There are much bigger things in the world to worry about than to look for the negatives. Let’s talk about love. Are you single by the way?

I’m taken! (Curio blushes). Ahem …What’s next for Meow Meow?

Well, I’m playing at the Bethoven Festival in Bonn Germany straight after Edinburgh, then to Berlin, then back to New York, onto the Melbourne Festival, Carnegie Hall series of gigs … just your average bohemian jetset existence...

With that, the chanteuse’s eyelids drooped and she was asleep. I took the burning cigarette out of her gloved hand and placed it in the ashtray. As she began to snore, I took one last look at her and left her dressing room and out  into the afternoon sun.

Meow Meow plays The Bosco Theater in the Spiegel Garden until 18 Aug. 11pm.
