Love them or loathe them, critics can make or break a show's success. We join the critical mass. ![]() Say what you like about critics. The painful truth is that if we didn't have them today, we'd invent them tomorrow. Their work is not highly praised. Perhaps this stems from the public's presumption that they themselves could do a better job, or that no-one should be doing such a job in the first place. But critics persist since our revulsion at their role ranks second only to our compulsion to hear what they've got to say. Some, if lucky, might even gain our trust- as became the case with film buff Barry Norman. But whether this happens or not, the likely eventuality is that we'll see in them only the caricature of a smug and somewhat incidental assassin- as became the case with film buff Barry Norman. So feel free to say what you like about critics: theyíre certainly free to say what they like about you. Take a look at the Seven Deadliest Snipes of the Century from these Festival and Fringe critics for proof of that. The Seven Deadliest Snipes |
