Quinn-tessential

I love Geraldine Quinn!  She came straight from her own show at the Gilded
Balloon last night and gave a storming set.  What a voice!  What wit!  What
panache!

That's my main memory of last night's show, which was a corker all round.
But as I've now succumbed to the Week Two lurgy, and my throat feels like
I've been gargling tacks and washing them down with petrol, I'm a bit
wobbly brain-wise.

Yesterday I found myself standing in a queue at the Pleasance for ten
minutes being soaked to the skin with freezing rain.  Hence my greeblious
state today.  I was waiting to see Josie Long's show, Trying is Good.  I
agree with the title, though the reverse is equally often the case (good, I
find, can be very trying).

So warm and shiny was Ms Long that within ten minutes of the show starting I found myself feeling toasty.  And her meandering tale culminated in a little piece about the painter Edward Hicks
that was surprisingly moving and inspirational.

I've finally sorted out tickets to go see things, so this week I hope to
have more shows to report on.  I specifically asked various press offices
for recommendations of things that need coverage and might not have the
profile, or audiences, they deserve.  I'll report back on these underdog
shows in due course.

But now I must feed myself up so I'm in fine fettle for tonight's
Vaudeville, as our guests include the amazing Luminescent Orchestrii and the
equally amazing Amanda Palmer.  Bring on the medication!
