I’m tired. Everyone is. A couple of days left and, instead of everyone rushing around squeezing the lost drops of juice from the cultural lemon that is the Edinburgh Festival, most of us are sitting weak of sinew on the edge of our beds, staring at our suitcases, yearning to fill them and get the hell out of here. The Edinburgh Fest is an awfully hard test. This month I have learned and seen much to know that there is more than one rotten plank in this the world's biggest stage of artistry. (More about that another time!) But let us not grumble. I, Curio, urge you my dear friends and foes, to gather the last of your reserves and haul your butts off your bed and realise that - though our feet and hearts are weary - this cursed little bundle of artistic fervour is what we all looked forward to all year. All rise to the occasion for one last weekend of triumph! I interviewed the comedian Mrs Barbara Nice yesterday. She is simply one of the warmest and kindest faces on the circuit. She’s not had it easy this month either but her spirit and belief that this is the Festival of festivals is indomitable. Sometimes wise words and candid comments can read so ordinary but are truisms to their very core. “It’s all just a journey for everyone,” she said. Come on, troupes. Let us join with Barbara and end it all on a "hiya!" Exeunt. |
