A free lunch

Miss Blue and I were guzzling late-night crepes outside the Gilded Balloon Teviot when we had a chance meeting.

Who should we have munching away beside us? None other than Jim Haynes, complaining of having developed a Nutella addiction after one too many visits to the crepe takeway bar.

For those that don't know, Jim is a Festival regular. Apart from having a successful theatre company, running a bookshop, and directing films, Jim (American, from Louisianna) now lives in Paris.

There, for the past 25 years, every Sunday, he opens his doors for a free dinner that anyone can attend. Providing he personally invites you. He has over the years entertained many famous and infamous guests, believe me.

Jim, in true spirit, invited Blue and I to Paris if we're peckish and we are more than likely to take him up on the offer in the near future.

This Festival has taught me there is no such thing as a free lunch, but Jim Haynes may be the exception to that rule! I hope so.

A truly wonderful, eccentric, chuckly old man. Hopefully we'll bump into him at the crepe bar again.
